Gerard Spong

Gerard Spong has been at the top of Dutch criminal law for 50 years. He defends suspects in national and international criminal cases, both in courts and courts of appeal, as well as in cassation before the Supreme Court. With more than 2,000 published cassation cases, he is an authority in the field. Spong has worked on well-known cases such as the RAF case, the LIBOR case, and the Groninger Bodem Beweging against NAM. Additionally, he is an opinion maker, author of legal thrillers, and presented the successful theater lecture In Vertrouwen (In Confidence).
Stijn Peerik

Stijn Peerik

Stijn Peerik has been working at Spong Advocaten since June 2019. He specialized in criminal law at the University of Amsterdam. During his studies, he gained seven months of full-time internship experience at the Public Prosecution Service in The Hague and Amsterdam. As a result, he is well-equipped to analyze and defend the interests of clients in criminal cases. Mr. Peerik also provides assistance in litigation against the rejection of your VOG application (Certificate of Good Conduct).
Elizabeth Bijl

Elizabeth Bijl

Elizabeth Bijl has been working at Spong Advocaten since February 1, 2023. She studied law and European studies at the University of Amsterdam. During her studies, she worked as an external clerk, after which she specialized in financial criminal law. Following the completion of her studies, she worked for two years as a clerk at the Court of Appeal before being sworn in as a lawyer in 2020. Her education and experience are highly valuable in her work as a lawyer, as they have given her a thorough understanding of the proceedings surrounding the courtroom.

Student internships

Spong Advocaten always has one internship position for motivated (near) graduate bachelor or master law students, with a focus on criminal law.

The bi-monthly full-time internship involves writing notes on ongoing criminal cases and attending hearings. Interns get a unique insight into one of our country’s most exciting criminal practices, a fixed fee, and conclude with an assessment and certificate.
