Spong also provides assistance in extradition proceedings. Extradition proceedings generally take less time than ordinary criminal cases, but demand extensive knowledge of the extradition treaty. Specific problems may arise in respect of extradition proceedings, for instance the possibility of an individual being punished twice for the same offence, specialty and proof of innocence. Recently, Spong managed to prevent an extradition to Germany in a fraud case. He is currently handling two cases involving the possibility of Dutch nationals being extradited to the USA for trading XTC.
